Who We Are

About Our Bakery

Beating The Odds

Our journey towards making Baked Culture the iconic bakery it is today was a winding, rocky, but ultimately rewarding one! Founders Liss and Benny had long wanted to combine their love of barista coffee and artisan baking to create a thriving local business. In early 2020, their idea finally came out of the oven and Baked Culture was born!

After an extremely successful launch day at the Foreshore Markets, the business was thrown into disarray by the global pandemic. It would be some time before Liss and Benny could bring their delicious offerings back to locals.

As restrictions began to ease, Baked Culture was able to star in more monthly markets and gather a steady following. Before long, the noise of keen customers who couldn’t stand to wait weeks for their next pastry and coffee fix became deafening! Liss and Benny quickly innovated to become established in a fixed location, finding it in a gorgeous heritage Port Macquarie bakery built in the 1800s.

A GoFund me page was set up, and the local community made it possible for the Baked Culture to get started! Unfortunately, fate threw up yet another hurdle for Liss and Benny. The old bakery was flooded, and they were back to square one.

Determined to push forward, Liss and Benny kept searching and were eventually offered a weekend space at Agostina Fine Fast Foods. On Saturday mornings, huge crowds began flocking to the bakery to pick up pastries, savoury snacks and other baked goodies. Local cafes began enquiring about wholesale orders. The business would need to expand.

After significant searching, Liss and Benny found the ultimate space for Baked Culture in Wauchope. It took 6 months and plenty of support from the community for the space to be prepared and transformed into the beloved bakery it is today.

Giving Back To The Community

Although Liss and Benny brought plenty of passion, experience and expertise to the job, they wouldn’t have been able to get Baked Culture off the ground without generous community support and their small, dedicated team. As such, they are passionate about giving back to the local community and preparing all their offerings with only the freshest and most flavoursome ingredients.

The community programs that Baked Culture support include:

  • The Crime Stoppers children’s mental health program
  • Electric Stew local art nights
  • Other local charity groups

Liss and Benny plan to support numerous other community initiatives in the near future.
